Health Services at Niagara Arms
Physician Services
Dr. Joseph Y. Wakil is the Medical Advisor for Niagara Arms Retirement Hotel and Residence. Dr. Wakil is experienced in geriatric care and visits Niagara Arms every morning (Monday through Friday) to do rounds, as well as making himself available for orders and/or medical advice for all residents'.
Residents' are free to retain the physician of their choice. However, many residents' prefer to be under our house physician's care due to his frequent visits to the facility and ease in accessibility. Should you wish to retain your own physician, he/she must be prepared to abide by the facility's policies and procedures.
Should a resident choose to switch from his or her own physician to Dr. Wakil, the resident must complete a form requesting and approving the transfer of medical records from their present physician to Dr. Wakil.
Medication Administration
We encourage all residents to maintain their independence and continue with "self medication" when at all possible. However, Niagara Arms will, if necessary or requested by the resident, their family or their doctor, to administer all prescribed medications to the resident. This service will include the storage, ordering of prescriptions through Briarfield Shoppers Drug Mart, verification of medications as well as the actual control of the resident's drugs and prescriptions. When administered by Niagara Arms, all resident medications are to be received in unit dose blister packs.
Supportive Services
Nursing Service: Niagara Arms provides 24-hour nursing supervision by registered staff. Should emergency attention be required or special assistance of some sort be needed, simply pull the call bell in your suite or in the bathroom and we will attend to your needs.
Personal Services
The Administrator has arranged for the following professional services
to be available to our residents':
" Podiatrist and/or foot care
" Chiropractor
" Denturist
" Optometrist
" Palliative Care Worker
" Meditation/ relaxation sessions
" Reflexologist
" Massage Therapy
" Eye glasses cleaning and repairs
A list of fees charged for the above services will be available from the
nursing office or from the Administrator.
Extra Services
Should you require any additional nursing care, physiotherapy or occupational therapy or in-house physio in excess of those services provided by Niagara Arms, our Administrator or Director of Care will assist you in arranging these services. topFor full, detailed list of services and features, please check out our Handbook
